About Jim Rodgers

Jim Rodgers’ passion for photography began in his hometown of Chicago, where he first experimented with a simple Kodak camera. During his high school years in New York City, he upgraded to a Rolleicord Twin-Lense Reflex camera and honed his skills in the dark room.

Over time, Rodgers mastered black-and-white film processing. Today, he employs digital tools like Photoshop and Lightroom to develop his work. His photography spans literal, abstract, and composite styles, covering a wide array of subjects.

Since moving to Las Cruces, Rodgers has developed a profound connection to the environment and community, which is deeply reflected in his work. His photographs are part of the permanent collection at Pace University in New York City. He earned first place in the 2019 New Mexico Magazine contest and was named Photographer of the Year 2025 by the Doña Ana Photography Club.

Rodgers’ work has been showcased in numerous galleries, including Preston Fine Art, Rio Grande Theatre, Branigan Cultural Center, Southwest Environmental Center, Center for Spiritual Living, Main Street Gallery, In Effect and The Hood Galleries.

Artist Statement

My artistic journey is a quest to uncover life’s deeper meanings, seeking out the subtle connections between my outer surroundings and inner reflections. I explore the interplay of energy, form, color, and light to reveal hidden moments of harmony. Whether capturing the night sky or assembling a layered composition, each photograph is a cathartic expression of my emotions, capturing the essence of my observations and translating them into a visual form that resonates with meaning.
